State: CA

Description:The Fairmont Hospital is part of the Alameda County Medical Center, which provides medical care to all county residents regardless of ability to pay. The Fairmont campus specializes in skilled-nursing care and acute rehabilitation. A 90-bed skilled-nursing facility provides long-term care services to patients whose needs cannot be met in a community skilled-nursing facility, and Fairmont also staffs a 50-bed comprehensive rehabilitation center. Ventilator-dependent patients are also cared for in the hospital’s 20-bed neuro-respiratory unit. In 1984, the hospital opened Fairmont HIV Services, becoming the first hospital in the East Bay to treat people with HIV. The program includes counseling, housing and benefits assistance, and substance abuse services. The medical center also provides extensive cancer screening and early detection services.
