Description:Oakland’s Highland Hospital is the flagship campus of the Alameda County Medical Center and one of six public ACMC facilities. Serving Oakland and Alameda County residents, including Medi-Cal, uninsured and indigent patients, 236-bed Highland operates the East Bay’s busiest emergency department, recording 73,000 visits annually. Highland is northern Alameda County’s designated trauma center, treating some 2,400 critically injured patients annually; 95 percent of the annual 11,000 inpatient admissions are admitted through the emergency room. Highland handles about 60 percent of the county’s adult trauma needs. The hospital reports 120,000 outpatient visits per year and provides a full range of health-care options, including orthopedics and urology; dental, diabetes, cardiac, cancer and HIV/AIDS  care; substance-abuse treatment; and maternal and children’s health services. Highland is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of California San Francisco and the University of the Pacific in the areas of emergency medicine, surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, internal medicine, primary care and transitional residency.
